The Professional Code, the cornerstone of Quebec's professional system, applies to more than 400,000 professionals in 45 professional orders. This code provides a consistent legal and regulatory framework that governs all of the orders according to common principles. The Professional Code gives the professional system the role of protecting the public. To accomplish this role, professional orders regulate and supervise their members' practice of their designated professional activities.

As the practice of psychology is a recognized profession under Quebec's professional system, the Ordre des psychologues du Québec and its members must comply with applicable laws and regulations. The regulations adopted by the Ordre des psychologues du Québec aim to ensure that its members practise their profession in an ethical and competent manner from the beginning to the end of their professional lives.
