The Ordre des psychologues du Quebec, through its Professional Inspection Committee, verifies the overall competence of psychologists, along with specific skills when circumstances require. The professional inspection process encourages psychologists to maintain and develop their professional skills.
Each year, the Order's Board of Directors approves a professional inspection program based on the recommendations of the Professional Inspection Committee. Among other aspects, this program considers the evolution of the practice of psychology and its impact on the quality of the services provided to the public by psychologists. A psychologist chosen by the annual inspection program may not be exempted from it except by providing proof that he or she does not practice under the title of psychologist. In particular, he or she cannot be exempted because of reputation, experience, or a small number of patients. Psychologists who are selected for the annual inspection program are visited individually by an inspector.
The Professional Inspection Committee may decide to inspect a psychologist who has not been selected for the annual inspection program if it receives information that calls into question the skills the psychologist needs to practise certain professional activities.
