Who Deals With Complaints?

The Syndic's Office is the body within the Ordre des psychologues du Québec that receives complaints from the public. Following an inquiry, it can respond to request by taking any of a number of measures, including conciliation between the psychologist and the requestor or by filing a complaint with the Disciplinary Council.

The Syndic's Office also has the role of informing psychologists and the public on the rules of ethical conduct governing psychologists. It also reviews bills issued for services rendered, including the conciliation of accounts in the case of a disagreement. By gathering information by telephone or e-mail, it can shed light on the problem at hand and possibly find a solution.

Requesting an inquiry

You can submit a request for an inquiry to the Syndic's Office by filling out the Request for an Inquiry Form and then sending it by mail or by fax at 514-738-7303. Please include in your request the name of the patient, the name of the psychologist involved, and the subject of your request as well as your name, address, phone number and email address. You will receive an acknowledgment including the name of the syndic responsible for the inquiry.

Review Committee

If the Syndic's Office decides that there are not sufficient grounds to file a complaint with the Disciplinary Council, you may ask for this decision to be reviewed by a committee established for this purpose, the Review Committee. If this committee upholds the syndic's decision not to file a complaint with the Disciplinary Council, you may do so yourself, a process known as a private complaint. This allows you to appeal directly to the council, but without being represented by the Syndic's Office.
