About the Ordre des psychologues
Founded in 1962, the Ordre des psychologues du Québec now has close to 9,000 members. It’s primary mission is to protect the public by:
- ensuring the quality of services provided by its members
- promoting the development of the profession
- defending citizens’ right to access psychological services
Specifically, the Ordre:
- issues psychologist and psychotherapist permits, as well as the various attestations that enable these professionals to engage in certain reserved activities
- monitors the profession to identify cases of the illegal practice of psychotherapy and any unauthorized use of the reserved title of “psychologist”
- receives reports from the public on the conduct of psychologists, investigates them and, if necessary, files a complaint with their disciplinary council
- conducts over 400 professional inspections every year
- offers continuing education
- ensures that its members complete a sufficient number of hours of continuing education
- publishes guidelines on best practices in psychology
- represents psychologists within the professional system and in dealings with mental health and human relations organizations
- informs members of the public of their rights
- engages with the media on topics related to psychology
